Training and Learning Module

Plastics2Olefins is committed to building the skills and knowledge needed to accelerate the transition towards sustainable plastic waste valorization. Through a structured training and learning programme, the project strengthens both the current industrial workforce and the next generation of engineers and sustainability professionals.

Education & Academic Integration at UCLM

A dedicated module on Decarbonisation Technologies for Waste Valorisation is integrated into the Master’s curriculum at Universidad Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM).

The learning modules cover the following topics:

  • Gasification
  • Pyrolysis
  • Anaerobic digestion
  • Fermentation

These are being delivered in collaboration with REPSOL. The module combines lectures and assessment, ensuring students gain practical insights into advanced recycling technologies.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) at DTU

Plastics2Olefins case studies are embedded into the MSc course “Life Cycle Assessment of Products and Systems” at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The students:

  • Conduct real-world LCAs using professional software (SimaPro)
  • Evaluate the environmental performance of waste management solutions
  • Identify environmental hotspots and improvement strategies
Training Workshops & Workforce Development

These training workshops will train:

  • Existing workforce
  • Demo plant operators
  • Future technical task force working on Plastics2Olefins technology

The workshops focus on:

  • Pyrolysis fundamentals and state-of-the-art
  • Plastics2Olefins process design
  • Technology implementation, operation and maintenance

These workshops are expected to benefit up to 50 employees through internal training activities.

Long-Term Impact & Replicability

The training and learning modules are designed to:

  • Be replicable beyond the project lifetime
  • Support lifelong learning
  • Facilitate large-scale deployment of Plastics2Olefins technology
  • Strengthening Europe’s circular plastics ecosystem

Through academic integration, industrial training, and applied sustainability assessment, Plastics2Olefins ensures that innovation is matched with the skills required for real-world implementation
